Wedding Inspiration

Don’t be a sheep!
Hands up if you’re addicted to Pinterest,
and the opinions of others?

Be original
Wedding Inspiration now? After 6 years of doing this? What’s he thinking!!

Well, it’s that time of year when I get a bit of “me” time, and after over 6 years of dong what we do, there have obviously been a few things we’ve picked up along the way!

There aren’t many weddings to be covered, and there’s not a lot going on in general, as it’s winter!

Yes, I get out and about when the weather isn’t too gnarly, but finding inspiration to go and shoot this time of year, can sometimes be difficult. So what do I do?

I have my list of things that I need to work through. Throwing out crap from the office, starting my accounts, writing a few blogs for other people, house keeping on the previous years images to free up some space, and I’ve even re-grouted and sealed our en-suite this year …… as I didn’t do it last year!

Mostly though, I do plenty of reading and image scouring ….. which has led me to writing this today!  Wedding inspiration.

“Wedding Inspiration and 2018 Wedding Trends You Must Adhere To” said one blog heading I stumbled across. “You Must Adhere To”! ……. here begins my rant!

Pinterest and “Insta!” are undoubtedly powerful tools for inspiration.  Regardless of what you need inspiring in! Wedding shoes. Surf boards. Latest beard trends. French Bulldogs dressed as super heroes! You name it, its all there …. and this is the problem!  Be original.

Many of the most stunning images we see on there are not from the UK!  Here are “4745 best wedding inspiration images” on PInterest.  Look at the first page and see if you can pick out the UK weddings!?

From the outset expectations are unfairly managed. But that’s not the issue I have; I’ll cover that in a separate blog ….. as I still have 3 months of winter on my hands!

A wedding day should be personal. It should reflect the personality and style of the couple getting married. As soon as you start looking to see what the latest wedding trends are, you follow the herd.  You know everyone is looking at the same images don’t you.

The trend and wedding inspiration ideas of today will be over in a year or 2, and your images run the risk of looking dated in the blink of an eye.

This is thanks to Pinterest and other such places will tell you that “rustic is sooooo 2017. 2018 is all about industrial”! Give me a break!!

If you make it personal, if the day reflects what’s important to you.  Your likes, your style and personality, your pictures will never be dated, because of 2 very important constants ……. YOU, the bride and groom!!   Whilst fashions and trends come and go, you will always be you.

Be yourself and you’ll be original!  YOU will be your wedding inspiration!

The theme for our own wedding was motorbikes and travelling.  This was complete with mini Elephants, a camera and suitcase style wedding cake, and a huge replica of my own crash helmet for all of our cards to be placed in! Didn’t see any of that appear on 2014’s must have wedding themes – and we never would, as the day was about US!

Anyway, my point is to just be you. Balls to trends and “bits” you think you need to make your day special. If you want to be original, be yourselves.

Also, just in case you were interested, the biggest wedding photography trend for 2018 was apparently having smoke bombs! So, if you haven’t bought any yet, I’d call your wedding off, as it’ll obviously be a disaster without them!!

Friggin smoke bombs! Really!?! Yes, they can make a picture with the right light, background and subject look interesting, but they won’t see you socially outcast if you don’t have one at your wedding will they!!

On that note, I’ll love you and leave you, as I’d better get back to my own list now. I need to tick off “clean up the disaster zone that used to be a kitchen”!

Travel theme wedding cake. Camera and Suitcase.
